PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computerized Tomography)
Using a radiotracer called FDG (FlouroDeoxyGlucose), a PET/CT scan is used to detect areas in the body of increased glucose metabolism, as can be seen in cancer and inflammation. Any regions of interest found with this technology are then further reviewed with MRI for anatomic detail.
