Your decision beginning today:
“Change my attitude about money and embark on a new journey of knowledge and fulfillment.” But where shall we begin? Begin with yourself. Take stock in your personal situation.
A good place to start:
- Investigate your credit history
- Reassess your debt obligations
- Take stock in your investment education
Getting a grasp of these 3 things will put you in a good place to make better choices going forward…and that is the beginning of a positive attitude leading to financial success!
Investigate your credit history
Have you ever obtained your credit report? There are a lot of sites out there trying to draw you into their web. The best place to go, are the actual organizations that have for years gathered and reported your credit information to the banks. You can get your credit report for free…you just have to mail in the required information and they respond the same way…by mail…for FREE.
If you can’t wait for the snail mail, you can obtain your credit information online for the price of a typical pizza – the information is good for 30 days. The official sites are…
- Equifax Consumer Services Canada – www.equifax.ca
- TransUnion – www.transunion.ca
- Experian – www.experian.ca
Important: Each site has consumer education that you should take the time to read and understand what credit is all about and how it affects your life.
Assuming you have visited one of these sites and obtained your credit information, you can see what the financial institutions see when you apply for a loan or mortgage. You should check your credit information at the very least once a year – if not twice.
If you find any discrepancies, you have to contact the company directly to correct the errors and have the company contact the credit bureau in writing (with a copy to you), fixing the problem. This is your responsibility and no one else.
See that wasn’t so difficult – you’re in control and on top of your game – this is a great start!
